Pathway Initiative for Studying in New Zealand
- New Zealand Education Minister Chris Hipkins told RNZ it was unlikely many international students would be accepted into the country for at least another year. He also added that New Zealand’s border checks are expected to continue over the next 12 to 18 months. The Government will be looking at ways to try and do something to create initiatives that will help international students study in New Zealand.
- However, Hipkins explained that there is no clear timetable for when a large number of foreign students can be expected to arrive in the country, and everything can be done differently. Finding a unique way to welcome students from around the world, Education New Zealand (ENZ) has announced a collaboration between a government agency and the country’s eight universities to launch a Study in New Zealand initiative that will help international students from more than 30 countries begin studying from home while the borders are closed. According to a press release, the UK-based Consortium of Universities (NCUK) will deliver world-class New Zealand education around the world and create a pipeline of students from overseas to study in New Zealand when the time is right.

Hipkins also added that the initiative will give students the motivation and flexibility to pursue higher education in New Zealand. Amid Covid-19, the New Zealand government expects overseas education to play a critical role in reviving the country’s economy.
- Introducing the study in New Zealand initiative, ENZ CEO Grant McPherson said this is the largest partnership between international education and the university sector to date, and the first time international students have been allowed to begin their studies abroad in New Zealand. Zealand.
